Your Should Practice Putting
"Drive for show, putt for doh"...we've all heard the cliché.
I don't think there's any doubt that putting is one of the most important parts of the "getting good at golf" puzzle. After all, it makes up for well above 30% your your total score each round.
But how much time do you spend every week on putting? Come on, be honest...
Yet putting is probably one of the easiest part of your game to practice in a home setting. Just put a coffee mug on the floor and putt away.
For a more professional and premium set up that's guaranteed to accelerate your journey to "putting god" status, there's the Kaizen Portable Putting Green. Read on to find out more.
The Features
To those that have been following our blogs, you would know that I actually built a golf green in my backyard myself (article here). Now with the Kaizen Putting Green and its large size and high quality materials, the you can transform your indoor or outdoor space into your own little slice of "Augusta National" without hacking up your lawn and breaking your back in the process. I have one as part of my golf simulator set up (see below) and I absolutely love it!
To provide a comprehensive review of the Kaizen Portable Putting Green, we will cover the key features that were used by MyGolfSpy in their article on Putting Mats. These include length, roll, materials, portability and other added features.
Length
The Kaizen Portable Green comes standard at 3.5m x 1.5m with 2 hole placements. You can practice putts up to 11 feet which is a lot longer than most traditional putting mats can offer.
If 3.5m x 1.5m isn't the right size for you, we do offer custom sizes and designs to suit your needs - just drop us a line. As an example, the one I have (above) is ~5m x 2.5m and it certainly brings the wow factor to an otherwise pretty budget simulator set up.
Material Quality
Unlike the traditional putting mats where it's a thin bit of artificial turf/carpet/felt material (with a thin rubber backing for the more premium offerings), the Kaizen Green is essentially a much bigger version of the Fairway portion of our Tri-Turf Golf Mat. It has a 12mm fairway turf on top of a thick 5mm EVA foam backing. Given it's built using material that is designed to be hit repeatedly by a golf club, it's built to last.
Add the 35mm fringe which is also from our Tri-Turf mat and some cups and flags and you've got yourself a mini golf green.
The Roll
With quality materials as mentioned above, the result is a true roll that would rival any green at a top golf club. The added padding at the bottom really helps to smooth out any imperfections on the floor surface.
Not convinced? See it for your self here.
Added Features
Although the Kaizen Putting Green doesn't come with alignment lines and distance markers that is becoming quire common in putting mats, it comes with it's own bag of tricks. Here are a few
- Fringe grass - not only does it frame the putting green really well, it's fantastic for practicing your short chips around the green. Cure that chipping yips once and for all.
- Cups and flags - apart from looking great, they provide more realistic targets to putt to.
You can also use your other favourite putting training aid that you would typically employee on a real putting green. As an example, my favourite combination involves an alignment stick and a Puttout cup, does wonders for my stroke.
Portability
Although it can be rolled up, the Kaizen Golf Green isn't as portable as the smaller and lighter mats on the market. The standard 3.5m x 1.5m unit weighs almost 30kgs so it isn't made to be rolled and unrolled and be moved about on a daily basis.
Final Thoughts
If you are serious about getting better at the great game of golf, you should spend more time practicing your putting.
Although it can simply be done by hitting some putts on your floor towards a target, and there's nothing wrong with that... you can really dial up the 'golf addict' factor through one of our Portable Putting Greens and instantly transform your indoor/outdoor area into your own very own putting green.
