How to build your dream golf simulator in Australia for under $5k

A Premium Golf Simulator in Australia for less than $5000? Yes it's absolutely possible.

It was not that long ago when Golf Simulators were only found in commercial set ups or the homes of the super wealthy.

That is not the case any more.

With continued innovation in Golf Launch Monitor technology making them more accurate and much more affordable, having a Golf Simulator in the garages or spare rooms of the average Aussie home is now very possible.

At Kaizen Golf, we are all about quality products and affordable prices, and with the launch of our Kaizen Masters Golf Simulator Enclosure, you can now build a premium golf simulator for under $5,000, guaranteed.

Before we get into the details, we just want to stress that we are not talking about a golf simulator that screams 'budget extreme DIY job' or a golf net with a impact screen hanging on it. We are talking about a set up using brand new, high quality materials and parts that have a clean and professional look.

Let's go shopping!

Let's get straight to the good stuff, in the table below we list all the items you will need to purchase for your golf simulator build and where you can get them from.

In case you are wondering, apart from our own products mentioned below, we don't make any referral/commission on any of the other products mentioned below. So we are all for comparing prices and shopping around for a even better deal  😊

Other Notes
Simulator Enclosure Kaizen Masters Golf Simulator Enclosure Kaizen Golf  $1,899

This is our flagship Golf Simulator Enclosure product made using high quality materials and a multi-layer impact screen.

Price is for 3m x 2.6m enclosure. 4m x 3m enclosure will cost $2099

Mat Kaizen Golf Tee Turf Large Mat Kaizen Golf  $399

This is our most popular mat, especially for simulator use.

Launch Monitor Rapsodo MLM2 Pro House of Golf, Golf Box  $990

Very accurate unit at a great price point. We have thoroughly tested this product and can really vouch for it.

In terms of simulator golf options, the Rapsodo unit comes with it's own out-of-the-box simulator play app with 30k golf courses, but in all honesty it's not the most realistic.

But you will also get a limited version of E6 Connect with your MLM2 Pro purchase which has 5 courses and a couple of driving ranges. The overall experience with E6 is far better than the Rapsodo simulation software.

We don't stock those products but they are available through a number of stores.

Although the RRP is $1100, but if you shop around you can easily get one for under $1k.

Projector Optoma GT1080HDR Short Throw Kaizen Golf   $1,509

This is by far the most popular sim golf/gaming projectors on the market, offering really good quality image and is fairly reasonably priced.

There are of course other options out there at a similar price range but we've gone with this product for this exercise.

Includes a $50 discount when combined with our Sim Enclosure.

Projector Mounting & Extended HDMI Cable They will all work. Amazon, Bunnings, Officeworks etc                           $150 This is more a generic product, so the price is for indicative purposes only.
Total Cost $4,947

Once you have all the items, with a bit of elbow grease, you will be able to set up your very own premium golf simulator, and still have change from $5,000 to boot!

If you want a bit more detail on how the different parts come together, be sure to check out this article - How To Build Your Own Golf Simulator - The Fundamentals.

For absolute completeness, here are a couple of items that are not included in the list above. You may need them for your set up depending on your own circumstances and preferences:

  • Computer/tablet - we assume that these are common household items that do not need to be purchased separately.
  • Flooring - although it's not absolutely necessary, but if you have a concrete or hard floor, we suggest putting down some carpet or artificial turf between your impact screen and your hitting mat. Not only will it improve the overall look of your simulator set up. It will provide a softer surface to catch your golf balls, so they don't bounce around everywhere and scuff up quickly.
Cost wise, if you shop around you will be able to get a 3m x 2m piece of artificial turf for less than $100, like 2 strips of this type of synthetic turf mat from Bunnings.
If you want to take the 'wow-factor' to the next level, a portable putting green will be a fantastic option.
  • Simulation software - if you want more than just the 5 courses that come with the limited version of E6, then you will have to spend a bit more for the full version. With a bit of tinkering, you can also get the Rapsodo MLM2 Pro to work with GSPro which costs $250USD per year.

Final Thoughts

So here's how you can build your very own dream golf simulator in your own home without having to trade in your car. We are really excited to be able to make this a reality for the everyday Aussie golfer with our Kaizen Masters Golf Simulator Enclosure and Golf Mats.

Also by no means are we saying that $5,000 is small change. If that's still too much of a stretch, then hitting into a net and having the graphics displayed on a laptop or a tablet is a much more cost effective option. And even if you are in the fortunate position where budget will allow, we still recommend shopping around for the best deal that you can get.

So if you are planning to build a Golf Simulator at home or are looking to upgrade your current set up, we would love for you to give our products a go.
